tumblr sucked yet its the only thing people like us could ever have posted on. tumblr was a deep sea geothermal vent and we are all pallid, desperate crabs snapping at the dark toxcic nutrients spweing from its hole, and bringing us into the harsh light of the instagram influencersphere would kill us instantly.
I feel like the update on the 17th banning so-called “adult content” will be particularly harmful to the trans community. This was a platform where trans people could express and celebrate their bodies, identities and experiences, but that will probably now be flagged as inappropriate, and so trans people once more lose out.
Meanwhile, TERFs have sent me rape threats, hatemail and transphobia and Tumblr has never lifted a finger to combat this. I’ve seen friends and mutuals be told to kill themselves by anonymous followers - Tumblr has never taken action. There are SO many more serious issues with actual consequences going on on this website - NUDITY is NOT one of them.
There need to be places like this where art and freedom can be openly celebrated, subculture can thrive, and people can engage with their self image. Censoring this is censoring the freedom this site is loved and used for. It adds it to the pile of platforms (such as Instagram) that already shame nudity or so-called “adult content”, adding to a toxic culture of shame and secrecy around our bodies.
But positivity, right?
